What is Rave Alerts and why is it important to me?


Rave Alerts is a service that allows residents and businesses to sign up for and receive emergency notifications by telephone, cell phone, text message, and/or email regarding serious emergency situations.




When will Rave Alerts be used?


Messages regarding the safety of the community can be sent using the Rave Alerts/Smart 9-1-1 system. These may include local missing persons alerts, evacuations and other important events.  Citizens can also sign up to receive automatic notifications for tornados and severe thunderstorms when issued by the National Weather Service.




Does the Rave Alerts system replace other systems that have been used to provide time-sensitive information to residents?


This system is an enhancement to existing means of communication and is meant to supplement current or past systems used for mass notification.




Does the Rave Alerts system already have my telephone number, or do I need to sign up to receive notifications?


Persons desiring to receive alerts need to sign up for Rave Alerts through Smart 9-1-1.   Hillsdale County Residents can sign up at the County Website: and looking for “Emergency Alerts – Smart 9-1-1.”




I have a business located in Hillsdale County. Can I arrange to have Rave Alerts contact my business?


Yes. Please note that emergency calls can only be delivered to a direct dial number. Automated attendants will disrupt the process and the calls will not be delivered. Businesses should register their main number and establish a procedure for distributing the Rave Alerts message to their workforce as appropriate.




What if I want to register additional numbers for my address?


You may sign up multiple numbers for the same address but a number may not be used at multiple addresses.




Is my personal information protected? 


Rave Alerts is a service of Rave Mobile Safety which takes security and privacy concerns very seriously. They will not sell, trade, lease or loan any of your personal information.  As with any database, be sure to use a strong user ID and password to help protect your information.




What should I do if I receive a Rave Alerts message?


Listen to or read carefully the entire message. You will have the option to repeat telephone calls. Do not call 9-1-1 for further information unless directed to do so or if you need immediate aid from Police, Fire or Emergency Medical Services.




I have a cordless phone, and it does not work when the power goes out. How will the system be able to contact me?


Make sure you have at least one working corded telephone – and be sure to turn the ringer on. Cell phone and/or work phone numbers can be entered as alternate phone numbers. Both primary and alternate phone numbers will be contacted when a notification is sent.




Will the Rave Alerts system leave a message on an answering machine?


Yes, the Rave Alerts system will leave a message on a machine or on voicemail. 


What happens if the line is busy?


If the line is busy, the system will try to connect at a later time.




What circumstances might prevent a message from being delivered to me?


  • If your contact information has changed and you have not registered your new information.
  • If you have only cordless phones in your residence, the power is out and you did not register an alternate phone number.
  • If your line is busy for an extended time and your calls do not forward to voicemail or an answering machine.
  • If you have a privacy manager on your main phone and you did not register an alternate phone number.
